A four-day celebration of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 556th Prakash Purab commenced at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib. The event was inaugurated with deliberations on “Innovative Ideas on Sustainable Development,” which thoughtfully highlighted the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji as enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Inaugurating the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh expressed that the Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji inspires everyone to uphold his teachings of compassion, equality, and selfless service for a harmonious and progressive society. A total of sixteen teams participated in the event, convened by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Head, the Department of Biotechnology. The first position was secured by Tasreen Kaur, a student of B.Sc. Chemistry, while the Second Position was awarded to Sahilpreet Kaur and Rupinder Kaur of Biotechnology Department. The team from the Department of Food Processing Technology - Mankeerat Singh, Kashish Bassi and Jashanpreet Kaur stood third.
The celebrations feature diverse events designed to engage students, faculty, and staff in a spirit of service and devotion. The University hosted its Annual Blood Donation Camp, supported by the dedicated medical team from the Blood Centre, Government Medical College, Patiala. Adv. S. Amardeep Singh Dharni, Member of the Trust of the University, inaugurated the camp. Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Prof. (Dr.) S. S. Billing, Dean Academic Affairs of the University also blessed the students. Over 100 participants registered for the Blood Donation Camp, resulting in the safe collection of 52 units of blood. Dr. Pankajpreet Singh, Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences shared that besides blood donation camp, a free physiotherapy Camp was conducted by Dr. Supreet Bindra, Head of the Physiotherapy Department. She provided personalised care and awareness on stroke prevention, rehabilitation, and management.
The University also organised a Student Seminar, led by Dr. Monika Airi, where students presented views on themes including Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings for a discrimination-free society, environmental issues, contemporary values, and gender equality. The first and second prizes were awarded to Sukhleen Kaur and Rajandeep Kaur, students of the Department of Education, respectively, while the third prize was secured by Simran Kaur from the Department of Religious Studies.
